NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, stranded in space for over six months, face more delays as their rescue mission is postponed. Initially set to return after 8 days, they now plan to return in spring next year extending the mission to 10 months. SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft will launch their rescue mission, but delays with the capsule have prolonged their stay.

Imagine coal miners going to work and then the mine shaft collapses and they can't return to the surface. The coal company says that "They are not stranded, and besides, they are trained professionals that are used to being underground." After eight months of dropping food and water to the miners, the company still insists that they are not stranded. This is NASA.

The Astronauts are trained for 8 months of space and 8 months is also a standard time.

If NASA wants an 8 months long ISS mission, they are not going to sext Suni and Butch

3:12 - The confidence with which Palki says this without knowing that an ISS mission goes on for 6+ months. The longest time someone has spent in space is 14 months that too in the 90s.
@1Query1
This was supposed to be an 8-day trip. So, false advertisement?
@user-je7pc2mp5e
@1Query1 It's not advertisment. It's change in plan because the vehicle is temporarily unavailable. It was planned for 8 days but got extended for 6 months.
@user-je7pc2mp5e
Nope. They planned to do the typical ISS mission. They just didn't know this kind of problem will arise.

@1Query1
@user-je7pc2mp5e Yeah. They planned to do the typical "8 day" ISS mission. What does it say when you can't admit to a failure even when it hits you in the face?
@user-je7pc2mp5e
@1Query1 NASA didn't admit the fault in the Starliner? Where do you see NASA not admitting failure? But you can't call a failure as "false advertisment." No one can predict when technical issues will happen.
@user-je7pc2mp5e
Those who don't know, the average time an astronaut spends in space is 6 months. And this is average. In some missions it is more than this. Sunita has previously spent 8 months at ISS. The longest time an astronaut spent in space was 14.5 months. It was done by Valeri Polyakov. So this delay of Sunita and Butch is nothing to panic about.
@1Query1
Imagine going on a cruise advertised to last 8 days and you ended up cruising for 6 months and still no end in sight. Where do I sign up?
@user-je7pc2mp5e
@1Query1 It's not "advertised." The cruise members themselves decided to go for 8 days. But then the ship was not available so they extended their vacation to 6 months. After 6 months the ticket booking will start and they can book a new ship and go back home.
@eish3291
It however begs the question, where is the backup plan if something goes wrong. Why isn't a spare rocket ready immediately. When the first Artemis mission to the moon lifts off will there be a spare rocket ready to go to the rescue should something go wrong.
@user-je7pc2mp5e
@eish3291 If you really want to know the answers then study hard, become a scientist and join NASA and you'll have all the answers.

@1Query1

@lynxco.
Yeah...but the problem is that it wasn't an "ISS mission",it was supposed to be an 8 day "test flight" of the Boeing starliner.
Yes they are trained to stay in space for 6+ months and yes they aren't exactly "stranded" but that's an extreme amount of delay and Boeing is 100% at fault here.

Told you, they cannot even keep to their words. From this, you can tell, they lost the space race to China
The only reason America wants to go back to the moon is because they fear china is going to beat them to it. The Chinese space agency have already said that preparations are on track for a moon landing by 2030, so NASA is in a panic knowing the competition is well down the track to make it happen.

It’s about time for you to stand up and demand from your government that it send one of its proud Chandrayaan space crafts up there to prove its worth!!!
Weren't they rescued a few weeks ago by a Russian rocket or something? I recall discussing about this with a friend. Or perhaps, this is another Mandela effect going on where some of us remember things differently?

A billion dollar assignment that never scheduled as per the plan and preparation. But literally It’s not much difficulty to lifting up the both astronauts within the circle of the rotation based on present available techniques and technology

This is so much like the film "Interstellar" (2014), directed by Christopher Nolan. In this science fiction epic, a former NASA pilot named Cooper (played by Matthew McConaughey) joins a space mission to find a new habitable planet for humanity. The astronaut got stuck in space and was swallowed into the black hole ;(

3:12 - The confidence with which Palki says this without knowing that an ISS mission goes on for 6+ months. The longest time someone has spent in space is 14 months that too in the 90s.
This was supposed to be an 8-day trip. So, false advertisement?

@1Query1 NASA didn't admit the fault in the Starliner? Where do you see NASA not admitting failure? But you can't call a failure as "false advertisment." No one can predict when technical issues will happen.

@1Query1 It's not "advertised." The cruise members themselves decided to go for 8 days. But then the ship was not available so they extended their vacation to 6 months. After 6 months the ticket booking will start and they can book a new ship and go back home.
It however begs the question, where is the backup plan if something goes wrong. Why isn't a spare rocket ready immediately. When the first Artemis mission to the moon lifts off will there be a spare rocket ready to go to the rescue should something go wrong.

OK. We all know they are "not stranded" for 6 months, or more. They just can't come back even if they wanted to. LOL
Yeah...but the problem is that it wasn't an "ISS mission",it was supposed to be an 8 day "test flight" of the Boeing starliner.
