The outsourcing part for cheaper labor in the U.S is not true. H1-B visa holder must be paid an equivalent salary to a U.S citizen. This is part of the law. I am one H1-B visa holder myself and the only thing that I would say is that being a foreigner in the US is not easy. People talk about the unfairness of hiring foreigner workers and how that takes away opportunities from American citizens. I am sorry, but that is just a propaganda. My American colleagues from college did not have to face any of the challenges that I had to find a job because of their American privilege. It took me a exponentially higher effort to get hired when compared to my American colleagues. So, to clarify, getting hired as an H1-B is not a low hanging fruit, but rather very hard work with an expiration date.

You should not report on a topic without proper facts. Recruitment at Amazon Meta Google Microsoft or any major tech is an elaborate process and people who can scale that are made an offer. The job offer is made as a last step with some room for salary negotiations. You are made an offer for a level which has a company defined pay range. Now if that person happens to be on H1 then how is the big tech hiring them for cheap ? On top of that, companies have to pay of their immigration process as well. Elon Musk is absolutely right about tech graduate shortages. Students show focus more on STEM and that culture needs to start at a young age. The consulting companies actually abuse the H1B visas.

What I find amusing is that so many people claim the US tech worker is lazy and unproductive. Yet the truth is, when software projects have been outsourced to teams overseas with three times the number of engineers for the same cumulative pay, the outsourced project falls apart and in a very large percentage of cases must be brought back on-shore to prevent the product from losing the market. Even when compared at a ratio of 3 to 1, US software engineers still out-produce foreign software engineers.

I’ve been hiring in tech for a long time. There are literally entire ecosystems to cover up the H1B fraud. Ever dealt with proxy interviewing (one guy interviews..a completely different guy shows up)? Proxy workers (one guy sits here…another guy remotes in and does his work)? Resumes that are literally MADE UP by the company (last one I remember personally seeing is Cognizant)? It is like an epidemic in India.

I'm one of those oddball H-1B visa holders not from India, China or any other country with high immigration to the US. But the thought that I "took" someone's job is just sad to me. I worked hard, gained experience in my field and applied for an internal transfer to the US. If I discover that I was hired just because I'm cheaper than an American... well.... that really is like getting slapped in the face. I work hard, and yes, I too am always scared that I could get fired and that I have to leave the country. But please, I have no intention of "taking" anybody's job. I just want to contribute to this amazing country and live my life in freedom.

I think this video is very misleading. They did not give statistics on H1B that finished the degree in the United States, not hired directly from overseas. These people received the same education with US citizens and thus have the same salary expectation. The H1B was actually a "malicious yet clever" move of the U.S. to keep talented external people to stay committed to a specific company because under this visa, before getting the green card, you are not allowed to switch employers.

YES and We are sick of it! How am I supposed to gain experience when all the low level IT positions are off shored. It's to the point where it is going to cause a national security problem because the government can't find qualified people for cyber security. Additionally, how in the world can I compete with someone who is willing to work for 1/4th of my pay. Globalism only benefits the corporations not the average person. No more offshoring jobs for customer service as well.

H1B visas have been watering down salaries for American scientists and engineers for decades now. American scientists have not much competition versus many of these foreign H1B visa recipients. Some of the issues are in fields where chemistry, physics and engineers are mostly affected are due to these workers that come as students to the United States. Most American students get into student loan debt while foreign students are not allowed to borrow money so by the time an American kid comes out school, he or she might have $100,000 while the foreign student has none. While the market should be based by regions and not by taking the whole country as consideration (due low and high living cost areas differences) employers tend to use the whole country market already diluting salaries for all technical workers. Foreign students usually want to stay in the US for financial situations as they might go back to their countries of origin such and especially places like India, Pakistan, China and generally speaking mid and southeastern countries do not have as many technical jobs nor pay very well. So employers with this knowledge understand that sponsoring newly graduated in STEM fields from these other countries will take lesser salaries "with the same quality work" as an American worker. While the American technical worker could leave a job or position at will due to low pay, little to not benefits, foreign technical workers must be sponsored by their companies to stay in the US. Employers understanding these, will have lower paying employees for the same quality and will likely stay with the company much longer than fairly paying an American technical worker. This happens a lot in areas where high concentration of technical industries are located like Los Angeles ares or New York or Texas oil and gas industries. American technical workers move to other part of the country to find decent paying work while foreign technical workers are hired by companies with many subcontractors’ foreign technical workers where technology (intellectual property) is usually stolen and taken back to their countries of origin (if they get tired of living in the US). Case and point, the F-35 replica China builds for the Chinese air force or the continuos industrial espionage to steal new technologies away from the US. Such employers are short sided by the little money they are saving and not by the consequences of creating a strong foreign competitor in few years. As the salaries become lower and lower for American technical workers there is less incentive to study a career that will give you much financial benefit and that is why people like Elon Musk supposedly complains that not many Americans want to become scientists or engineers while is a big beneficiary of not hiring Americans. In few words, if you are an American technical worker applying for a job, your resume is going to the bottom list or not need to apply.

The unfortunate reality is that most Americans cant afford the education required to compete with international graduates at a higher level. We bring in very few US employees at our place compared to Asia and Europe at the tech company I work for. We do bring in some Americans, but they are a minority. Domestically Americans just cant compete. Yes there is abuse in the program as well, but even if you eliminate it, most Americans won't be able to compete.

The unfortunate truth is that the average H1B holder is likely in the top 1% of all performing employees. They often start of as the brightest students in their country and have to be the best students at US Universities to even get hired. Then they have to a top performing employee for that organization to consider applying for the Visa multiple times till they get it. These barriers to entry ensure that only the very best are sexted. But in all honesty we're just being wasteful with the abundance of talent coming through our doors

There is shortage of cheap labor in America. These tech companies prioritize profits over citizens who also happened to be their customers as well. Boycott tech companies that prioritize foreign workers over Americans
美國根本不缺技術(shù)人才,否則每個(gè)崗位怎會(huì)有數(shù)百份簡歷投遞?真正缺的是廉價(jià)勞動(dòng)力。這些科技公司把利潤看得比公民更重要,而公民恰恰也是他們的客戶。大家應(yīng)該抵制那些優(yōu)先雇傭外國員工的企業(yè)。
