Yunnan, China’s most diverse province, is a land of breathtaking contrasts—where snow-capped Himalayan peaks give way to lush jungles, and ancient cultures thrive amidst modern vibrance. Nestled in the country’s southwest, Yunnan is home to 26 of China’s 56 ethnic groups, each with its own language, traditions, and festivals. The result is a cultural mosaic unlike anywhere else in the country.
I began my journey in Yanjin, famously known as the "narrowest city in the world," before making my way to Jianshui, one of Yunnan's many vibrant Muslim communities. From there, I traveled south to the borders of Vietnam and Myanmar, where the landscapes and cultures blend seamlessly with those of the neighboring countries. Continuing my adventure, I explored the birthplace of tea before heading northwest through Shangri-La, gradually approaching the edge of the Ti... Autonomous Region.

Love this idea, and hope you get well soon! I must admit, I struggle to remember/distinguish the names of lots of the different cities, towns, counties, and provinces. The little maps you do at the start of episodes are really helpful for this (also for rivers, mountains, etc.). Perhaps you could do more detailed maps and explanations about the geography? If you referred back to the map more often, it would be easier for me to build up a mental map of China in my head. I also love the focus you put on the productive activities in each region and town; thinking about what a region produces also helps me to remember. Thanks for your videos!

Even though our country is not far from yours we are in the other border of Myanmar. First time I heard about Yunnan is from Dianxi aka Apenji. I became obsessed ever since. We are very much alike in terms of looks, lifestyle and we eat the same food.

OMG!!! I'm loving this series so much Yan! I love Yunnan province exactly for its most diversity in everything from landscapes to its people and food, but this series really really highlighted a lot of different counties/regions within Yunnan that us international tourists would not know besides Kunming, Dali, Lijiang, Shangri-la, Shaxi, Lugu in 1 single episode which I really appreciate. I am really looking forward to seeing the compilation for Sichuan province (which I also love for its extreme diverse landscapes) & all the other 20+ provinces/autonomous region in China because it would be such a useful guide to visit lesser known places in China.

The rice terraces just bring sharp tears to my eyes, they're so beautiful. My partner and I were so worried when we heard about your accident. Please don't let this get you down or keep you from getting back on your motorcycle. You were traveling long distances, up and down mountains and rode many, many kilometers on poorly maintained roads. You did amazing! You can make videos on what to bring to certain places to make life easier. You can make videos on visas and difficulties you've had on your trips. These types of videos typically get a good number of views. Hope you heal quickly!
